Detailed Daily Program
Open each day for the full description. The program below is based on the tour material supplied for this website; final lodge names, operating times and any optional activities are confirmed with the quotation.
Depart from Arusha toward the Rift Valley and northern Tanzania. The supplied program includes time in the Lake Manyara area before continuing toward the Lake Natron region. The road moves from the greener escarpment country into progressively drier volcanic landscapes and Maasai pastoral areas.
Where a Lake Manyara game drive is included in the confirmed package, enter the park for wildlife viewing before continuing north. Wildlife sightings vary naturally and are never guaranteed. After the park or scheduled stop, continue by road toward the accommodation or campsite used for the Lake Natron portion of the program.
On arrival, settle in, eat and receive an outline of the next day’s activity. The transfer can be long because road conditions vary, so the final timing is kept flexible.
Experience & Practical Details
Lake Manyara sits below the Great Rift Valley escarpment and combines groundwater forest, open areas and lakeshore habitat.
Birdlife can be diverse around the lake and wetland areas, while larger mammals move between forest, woodland and open habitat.

Use the day to explore the Ngare Sero and Lake Natron surroundings before the night climb. The supplied source itinerary includes a walk toward the Ngare Sero source, where springs emerge among rock formations in a dramatic Rift Valley setting. A local guide leads the walk and determines how far the group proceeds according to water level, heat and trail conditions.
Return to the accommodation with time to rest during the warmer part of the day. Later, organize the equipment required for Ol Doinyo Lengai: sturdy footwear, water, layered clothing, head torch and personal items for a steep volcanic ascent. Eat early and attend the final briefing.
The summit attempt normally begins around midnight because the lower temperatures during the night make the steep ascent more manageable.
Experience & Practical Details
Pickup time, activity order and return time are confirmed before the tour according to local operating conditions.

Leave during the night and drive to the base of Ol Doinyo Lengai. Begin the ascent with the local mountain guide. The climb is steep and physically demanding, with loose ash, volcanic rock and a large elevation gain over a relatively short horizontal distance.
The supplied source program allows around five hours for the ascent, although actual timing depends on fitness, footing and conditions. The objective is to reach the upper mountain around dawn. Access to the highest or crater areas is always subject to volcanic activity, weather and the guide’s safety decision, and it must never be treated as guaranteed.
Descend carefully while the morning is still relatively cool. After returning to the base, transfer back to the Lake Natron area for food and recovery, then begin the road transfer to Arusha or Moshi.
