Materuni villageGuided waterfall walkCoffee preparation demonstrationKilimanjaro foothill farming

Materuni lies on the lower slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro, around a short drive from Moshi. The day begins in the village, where farms growing coffee, bananas, avocados and other crops cover the green hills. From the village, walk with a local guide toward Materuni Waterfall.

The trail crosses cultivated land, small waterways and sections of lush vegetation, and the guide explains how local irrigation channels and farming support daily life on the Kilimanjaro foothills. The walk normally takes around thirty to forty minutes each way, although trail conditions can make it slower after rain. The waterfall is fed by water descending from the Kilimanjaro area and the final approach gives a close view of the steep valley and falling water.

After returning toward the village, continue with the coffee experience. Materuni is a coffee-growing community, and the demonstration follows the main stages used to prepare coffee locally. Depending on the season, you may see coffee plants and different stages of the crop.

The host explains sorting, drying, roasting, pounding or grinding, and finally brewing the coffee. The demonstration ends with a fresh cup prepared locally. The visit also provides time to learn about Chagga farming, food crops, livestock and household life.

Lunch is served when included in the confirmed package before the return drive to Moshi.
